City Christmas lighting, activities are Saturday

Franklin’s Christmas parade and lamp-lighting ceremony is Saturday.
Line-up for the parade will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Jackson Street and the parade will begin at 6 p.m. at the corner of Jackson and Main streets. The lamp-lighting ceremony honoring local veterans begins immediately after at the Courthouse Square.
In the event of rain, the parade will be canceled. However, the lamp-lighting ceremony, children’s activities, the vendors and the band will be inside of Teche Theatre for the Performing Arts.
The activities for the City of Franklin’s Christmas parade do not end with the lamp-lighting ceremony. Trolley rides will begin after the lamp-lighting ceremony on the corner of Willow and Main streets from 7-9 p.m.
Children’s activities such as face painting, ornament making, letters to Santa and a snow playground will be available after the parade in the area behind Teche Ridge and the Center Theater. Children will be allowed to play in the snow for 15 minutes each. Free tickets will be handed out with a scheduled time to play, and there will be a sign-in sheet for participants to confirm their time. Up to 35 people will be allowed into the snow playground at a time. These activities will be from 7-9:30 p.m.
Children and their families will be able to take pictures with Santa in the parking lot behind the Stiel building. Packages will be offered. Pictures will be taken from 7-9:30 p.m.
The Michael Foster Project, a New Orleans-style brass band will perform from 7-9:30 p.m. behind the Blevins building after leading a second line into the Courthouse Square. Many of the members of the Michael Foster Project are a part of the group that performed for the Harvest Moon Festival Kickoff at the Teche Theatre, the John Gray Jazz Quartet.
Nonprofit organizations will be vendors inside of the Blevins building from 5- 9:30 p.m.
