Christmas parade, lamp lighting Dec. 7

Franklin’s Christmas parade and lighting ceremony will include trolley rides and more this year.
The parade begins at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7 and the lighting ceremony will follow. Area veterans are the official Lamp Lighters this year.
There will be children’s activities such as face painting, ornament making, letters to Santa and a snow playground will be available after the parade in the lot behind the Center Theater. Children and their families will be able to take pictures with Santa in the parking lot behind the Stiel building.
The Michael Foster Project, a New Orleans-style brass band will perform behind the Blevins building. Many of the members of the Michael Foster Project are a part of the group that performed for the Harvest Moon Festival Kickoff at the Teche Theatre, the John Gray Jazz Quartet. The Michael Foster Project will be a part of the Christmas parade, leading the second line into the Courthouse Square.
There will be vendors inside of the Blevins building. Chez Hope will be selling hot chocolate and funnel cakes. According to Community Development Director Arlana Shields, “The City of Franklin would like to have more nonprofit organizations participate as vendors. Schools, churches, social organizations and veterans groups are all eligible to be vendors. Sadly, space is limited, so please contact the Office of Community Development as soon as possible.”
All vendors are required to complete a vendor application and have their own supplies to set up inside the Blevins building.
There’s still time to be a part of the festivities. All golf carts must be registered to participate in the parade. Applications are available in the Office of Community Development at city hall on Iberia Street.
Groups that are walking in the parade must call or e-mail the Office of Community Development and provide the name of the organization and the contact information for the person responsible for the organization for the evening.
Veterans should call or e-mail the Office of Community Development and provide information about their military service and their contact information.
For more information about the night’s activities, to be a part of the parade as a veteran, to register a golf cart, to sign up a group to walk or to be a vendor, contact the Office of Community Development at 337-828-6345 or
