Charter changes on parish council agenda
Members of the St. Mary Parish council meet in regular session Wednesday.
Items on the agenda include:
—Consideration of two proposed ordinances to amend the home rule charter to include deductions of council member compensation for non-attendance of meetings and expand the president’s term limits from two to three terms. If adopted the changes would only be enacted after approval by voters. A hearing to receive public input will be called at 5:45 p.m.
—Introduction of an ordinance granting a specific use permit to Coastal RV LLC for a 96-lot RV park with bath house and office at 2801 Lake Palourde Road in Amelia.
—Resolutions on agreements with Southern Constructors LLC on repairs and improvements to Russo and Marcel boat landings; with Gray Construction on the Patterson sewer improvements project; and with the lowest bidder on pavement reconstruction to the administration area at the Harold J. “Babe” Landry Landfill.
—Resolutions requesting the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development to construct on and off ramps on U.S. 90 at Willow Street in Franklin; approving the issuance of bonds by St. Mary Parish Water and Sewer Commission 4; congratulating the Centerville Biddy Basketball 11- and 12-year-old All-Star Team for placing first in the International 2A Division Championship; and proclaiming April as Fair Housing Month.
—Hear funding requests from the City of Morgan City for $15,000 to purchase equipment for a recreational skate park; and from Councilman Ken Singleton for the transfer of $5,453.56 from Wards 5 and 8 three-tenths sales tax collections to the Patterson Volunteer Fire Department for equipment purchase.
The meeting begins at 6 p.m. on the fifth floor of the courthouse in Franklin and is open to the public.
