Bayou Vista man killed, another injured in early morning crash in Amelia
A 34-year-old Bayou Vista man was killed when his vehicle traveled off the road in Assumption Parish at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to a news release from Tfc. Evan Harrell of Louisiana State Police Troop C.
A 2005 Nissan Titan driven by Aurelio Montelongo-Hernandez was traveling east on La. 182 near La. 662 in Amelia, police said. The Titan traveled off the left side of the road where it rolled over and struck several trees.
Montelongo-Hernandez, who was wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead on the scene by an Assumption Parish Coroner’s Office representative, Harrell reported.
The front seat passenger, who was not wearing a seat belt, received minor injuries and was transported to Tech Regional Medical Center in Morgan City. The passenger was not named.
Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in the crash, and routine toxicology tests are pending, the news release stated. It was raining at the time of the crash, and an inspection of the vehicle indicated that the rear tread on the tires was low, the report stated.
Low tread depth combined with traveling to fast for road conditions may have been factors in the crash, Harrell reported.
The crash remains under investigation.
