3 charged in fuel theft
Three men have been charged with the alleged theft of fuel and its resell from a business.
Sheriff Mark Hebert reported that his office and the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office conducted a joint investigation into a tug boat captain reportedly taking diesel fuel from his employer and selling it at a dock in the Cypremort Point area.
A surveillance operation began Tuesday at an area off La. 319 on the Intracoastal Waterway. Detectives reportedly witnessed tug boat personnel pumping diesel from the boat into a tanker truck.
When officers approached, the workers dropped the pump hose and fled onto the boat.
Arrested were the driver of the truck and a passenger, Louis M. Dutreil Jr., 26, of Marerro, and Eric S. Landry, 27, of Laffite. Both are charged with illegal possession of stolen things.
The boat captain, Rod Pellegrin, 48, of Cut Off, was charged with two counts of felony theft. Hebert said Pellegrin intended to sell 2,000 gallons of fuel that night with a value of $6,000. He had reportedly profited from a similar sale on at least one other occasion.
The investigation is continuing.
Dutreil and Landry were released after they each posted a $5,000 bond. Pellegrin was released on $10,000 bond.
