Local Chi Chapter attends Epsilon State Convention
The Epsilon State Convention was held March 15 to 17 at the Library Events Center in Ruston. The 55 Louisiana chapters of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International converged at the site. Theme of the convention was “REACHing Goals.”
St. Mary Parish Chi Chapter members attended. They were Chris Gatte, Emily Guillotte, Dawn Chaisson, Nedra Tabor, Annette Carr, Robbie LeBlanc, Mary Ann Hebert, Alecia Rabalais and Jeannie Landry. Gatte was recognized as a “first timer” to the convention.
During the convention, Chaisson was tapped to participate in the Bea Davis Leadership Seminar June 7 to 9 in Woodworth. Chaisson, editor of the Chi Chapter newsletter, also earned a Newsletter Award certificate of merit.
Chi Chapter members Hebert, Rabalais and Landry presented a workshop titled, “What’s your FILL-osophy?” where they shared information for how several elementary schools in St. Mary Parish are embracing “Bucket Filling” as a philosophy for character education and bullying prevention. The concept is based on the book, “Have You Filled a Bucket Today,” by Carol McCloud.
At the birthday luncheon, Chi member Karen Marin received a Jubilee Rose stipend to support her attendance at the upcoming Irlen Screening Method training. Niki Fryou was acknowledged for having earned the Louisiana Elementary Principal of the Year distinction.
At the Presidents’ and Founders’ Banquet, Chi Chapter received the Gold Key Chapter award.
High point of the convention for Chi members was the installation ceremony March 16. A number of Chi members extended congratulations to newly installed state President Martha Turner.
