LOCAL BRIEFS: MCHS soccer stays busy over break

By: Staff Reports
The Morgan City soccer program kept busy over the holidays with games against Central Lafourche and Thibodaux.

The boys won both games with the first victory a 1-0 result against C. Lafourche.

Travis Romero scored the games only goal, but the Tigers could’ve won by much more after dominating possession.

“We played well tonight despite the one goal, we kept Central shut down with our defense and kept the pressure on their side of the field,” MCHS coach Jorge Hernandez said.

Against Thibodaux, the Tigers won again by a one-goal margin.

Sergize Flores scored in the 15th minute and the Tigers held on for the win.

“Hats off to the Thibodaux goalie, he had some good saves and kept them from having a lot more goals scored on them,” Hernandez said. “On the boys’ side it was the same, Thibodaux had chances but their finishing wasn’t up to par.”

The Lady Tigers split their two games. First up was a 2-0 loss to C. Lafourche.

“Neither team had any great threats and it was for the most part a very stalemate game,” MCHS coach Trevor Patterson said. “Central managed to get two goals where we had chances and could not come away with anything.”

The Lady Tigers then bounced back with a 2-0 win over Thibodaux.

Celeste Williams scored in the 27th minute and Carmen Aroujo scored in the 75th minute.

“I found we dominated the game and kept pressure on Thibodaux, they had some chances with some through balls but their finishing wasn’t on their side,” Patterson said. “We had a lot more chances to score and it’s something we are continuing to work on.”

Both teams travel to face Ellender today with the first game set for a 5 p.m. kickoff.
