Lane new pastor of St. Mary’s Episcopal
The Rev. Dr. Calvin Lane recently arrived in Franklin to serve as pastor of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church on First Street.
Originally from North Carolina, Dr. Lane holds a bachelor of arts degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a master’s degree in theology from Nashotah House Theological Seminary in Wisconsin, and a doctorate degree in religious studies from the University of Iowa.
He and his wife, Denise, have been married for just one year and are excited to begin their ministry in Franklin.
Having grown up in a small town in North Carolina, Lane is thrilled to experience Franklin’s rich history and the deep relationships that abound here. He said he is also excited about God’s mission here and welcoming people from all walks of life.
“St. Mary’s Church has a rich and long history,” Lane said. “But we’re so much more than a historic site. We’re a group of people who love Jesus Christ and we want to open our doors and our lives wide for everyone to come and see what we’re about here.”
Sunday morning worship continues at 10:30 a.m., but Cal has also begun offering a brief service of Morning Prayer at 9 a.m., Monday through Thursday. He explains that this 10- to 15- minute service is a great way to begin your day before you head off to work, and all are welcome.
A Sunday morning Bible study is also in the works for the fall.
He said that if local residents see him around town, he “wants everyone to know that I would love to hear your story and about what’s happening in your life.”
