Landrieu, Vitter: $1.4M grant for Port Fourchon

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Louisiana's two U.S. senators say the Greater Lafourche Port Commission is getting a $1.4 million grant to elevate and improve the drainage of a road at Port Fourchon, which serves as the hub for much of the offshore energy activity and production in the Gulf of Mexico.

U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu says the grant, awarded Thursday through the U.S. Economic Development Administration, will help with the area's Hurricane Isaac recovery efforts and create 320 new jobs in Lafourche Parish.

U.S. Sen. David Vitter says the funding will support much needed infrastructure improvements at the port and help improve its safety and sustainability.
