Lakeshore teams defeat MCHS
MORGAN CITY — The Morgan City boys’ and girls’ soccer teams fell at home Friday to Lakeshore.
The girls fell 3-0, while the boys lost 4-1.
In the girls’ game, Morgan City (0-2) allowed a goal in the first half and two more in the second half.
“We knew Lakeshore, coming into the game, was a good team,” Morgan City coach Trevor Patterson said. “At the end of last season, they were ranked No. 4 in the state. Our goal was to keep back and compress the box allowing no shots or (through) balls.”
In the contest, Lakeshore had 26 shots on goal and received goals from Anna Gourges, Blake Gassen and Ema Claire Furman
Mayme Covey had an assist on Furman’s goal.
Despite the loss, Patterson called the outcome a “respectful score.”
In the boys’ matchup, Patterson said his squad seemed “very sluggish and slow” against now No. 8 Lakeshore.
“We came away with a big win against Terrebonne, and we didn’t carry that momentum to this game,” Patterson said.
Lakeshore scored three of its four goals in the first half, and Patterson said the visitors kept constant pressure.
“We had some chances on some breakaways but just couldn’t finish it,” Patterson said.
The Tigers (1-1) got its lone goal from Daniel Alvarado in the 45th minute via a free kick
While Patterson said his squad appeared to pick up its intensity at the time, Lakeshore put another goal in, “which seemed to deflate us,” the Morgan City coach said.
Both Morgan City squads will continue play today when they travel to face East Jefferson. Action will begin with the girls’ game at 5 p.m.
