Lake End Park purchases OK’d

MORGAN CITY, La. — The city finance committee recommended the purchases of two new coin-operated washers and dryers at Lake End Park for a total cost of $7,598 to replace other machines that went out of service.

The committee met Friday at City Hall.

The park will now have four washers and dryers for campers to use, said city recreation and culture director Dwayne Barbier.

“We’re operating with two less right now because we had two washers that broke and two dryers,” Barbier said.

“The ones we’re replacing are probably about seven, eight years old. We’ve probably gotten our money back on those things multiple times,” Barbier said. The estimated cost to repair the machines is about as much as it would cost to buy new ones, he said.

The money to purchase the washers and dryers would come out of the Lake End Park fund balance, said city finance director Deborah Garber.

The finance committee’s recommendations will come before the city council at its meeting on Tuesday.

The committee also elected city councilman Louis Tamporello as its chairman.

Barbier also said the city is still waiting on AT&T to finish hooking up the phone line in the three new cabins at Lake End Parkway before the cabins can be available for rent, Barbier said. AT&T’s projected completion date is Thursday, he said.

The city then has to get approval from the fire marshal to be able to begin renting out the cabins.
