Lady Tigers upset No. 1 Berwick; Tigers roll

MORGAN CITY — It was a good day for the Morgan City High School bowling teams during the Morgan City/Houma regionals at Charlie’s Lanes Monday.

The Morgan City’s girls’ bowling team, who entered the regionals ranked eighth, defeated No. 9 seed South Lafourche 22-5 to advance to face No. 1 seed Berwick immediately after.

The Lady Tigers then routed the top-seeded Lady Panthers 21.5 to 5.5 to advance to move on in today’s action where they will face Ellender at 1:30 p.m. for the right to advance to Bi-Regionals in Houma.

Ellender advanced after defeating South Terrebonne, 15-12.

In other action set for today, H.L. Bourgeois’ girls, which defeated Terrebonne, 23-4, will face Vandebilt Catholic at 1:30 p.m. for the right to advance to Bi-Regionals in Houma Monday.

The loser of the Morgan City-Ellender matchup will face the loser of the Vandebilt Catholic-H.L. Bourgeois matchup at 3:30 p.m. for the final of three spots in next week’s Bi-Regionals.

In boys’ action, the Morgan City Tigers cruised past South Lafourche, 24-3, to advance to next week’s Bi-Regionals, which begin Monday at Creole Lanes in Houma.

In securing the win, the Tigers topped their high score for the season by recording a 3,642 Monday, which is the highest score posted statewide, according to Louisiana High School Athletic Association Regional Coordinator Leo Delaune.

While Delaune said Morgan City earlier held the highest score in the state, Broadmoor High School in Baton Rouge had topped their mark with a 3,581, which he said stood until Monday.

In the Morgan City girls’ win against Berwick, Morgan City’s Kristi Wright turned in games of 192, 179 and 149.

Berwick’s Elle Arcemont bowled games of 167, 145, 138, while teammate Lauran Delco had scores of 144, 162, 152.

In the Morgan City girls’ win against South Lafourche, Wright recorded a 503 series (169, 163, 171) for the Lady Tigers, while Carly Callais had a 427 series (139, 136, 152) for South Lafourche and teammate Seddy Bourg had a 422 series (150, 138, 134).

In the Tigers’ win, Chandler Delaune recorded a 681 series (200, 232, 249), while Austin Courtney turned in a 637 series (213, 222, 202). Other top contributors included Ryan Veillion (216, 204) and Taylor Brocato (236).

Brannon Lee’s 204 led South Lafourche.

South Lafourche defeated Central Catholic, 22-5, for the right to face Morgan City.

Luke Plaisance recorded a 562 series (193, 188, 181) for South Lafourche, while Josh Abney had a 519 series (155, 191, 173) for Central Catholic.

Also Monday in other boys’ action, Ellender Memorial defeated E.D. White, 21-6.

Today, Berwick will face South Terrebonne at 1:30 p.m. in boys’ action with the winner advancing to Bi-Regionals.

Vandebilt Catholic will face Ellender and Terrebonne will meet H.L. Bourgeois, both at 1:30 p.m. today, for the right to advance to next week’s Bi-Regionals.

In other girls’ action, Vandebilt Catholic defeated Central Catholic in second-round girls’ action, 17-10.

Lindsay Toups bowled a 211 for Vandebilt, while Colleen Cheramie added a 191.

Jada Pennison recorded a 184 for Central Catholic.
