Lady Eagles win home finale against Gueydan

The Central Catholic Lady Eagles defeated Gueydan, 7-0, in their home regular season finale on Monday, setting up today’s District 8-1A matchup with Hanson Memorial in Franklin for the district title.
Both Hanson (15-3) and CCHS (15-10) enter today’s 5 p.m. matchup with 4-1 records. Hanson’s lone blemish was a 3-1 loss to CCHS in Bayou Vista on March 27, while the Lady Eagles’ lone loss was an 8-7, 11-inning loss to Vermilion Catholic on March 29.
In Monday’s District 8-1A matchup, the Lady Eagles broke open a 2-0 ballgame with a five-run sixth inning.
In the win, CCHS’ Megan Landry tossed a complete-game one-hitter to improve to 12-8 overall and 4-1 in district play. She surrendered two walks and struck out eight.
At the plate, Landry finished with three hits, including a triple, two RBI and a stolen base.
Other CCHS hitters included Kimberly Russo, two hits, an RBI, three stolen bases and two runs; Brittany Longman, two hits including a double, and a run; Celine Flores, two hits and a stolen base; Amanda Barron, two hits and a run; Abbie Bergeron, a triple, an RBI and a stolen base; Olivia Crawford, a hit, two stolen bases and a run; and Caroline Byrne, a hit and a run.
The Patterson High School Lumberjills (9-16 overall, 5-7 in District 9-3A play) blew out Franklin High School, 17-1 in District 9-3A action in Patterson on Monday.
The game was called after three innings because of the 15-inning mercy rule.
Patterson’s Carissa Fontenot started the game and surrendered an earned run on two hits and struck out one.
In relief, Taylor Hall struck out four in two innings of work.
At the plate, Jordon Aucoin led the ’Jills with a 1-for-3 performance with a double, three RBI and a run, while Carli McIntyre added a 1-for-2 performance with a triple, two runs, two walks and two RBI.
Other ’Jills collecting hits included Rachel Easley, 1-for-1 with two runs, two walks and an RBI; Arianna Ross, 1-for-1, a run, a walk and an RBI; Morgan Lavergne, 1-for-1, a run and an RBI; and Caitlyn Fontenot, 1-for-1, a double and three runs.
On Saturday, the ’Jills fell to Erath in a doubleheader on the road, 13-3 and 6-4.
In the 13-3 loss, Erath — already ahead 5-3 — put the game away with a five-run fifth inning.
Carissa Fontenot took the complete game loss for Patterson. She surrendered 13 runs (10 earned) on 13 hits. She walked four and struck out two.
At the plate, Grace Beadle led the ’Jills with a 2-for-3 performance, while Madi Morris added a 2-for-4 performance with a double. Fontenot and Carli McIntyre each finished 2-for-4 with a run.
Other PHS performers included Arianna Ross, 1-for-3, a run, a walk and an RBI; Rebecca Taylor, 1-for-4, an RBI; and Caitlyn Fontenot, 1-for-3 with a run.
In the second game, the ’Jills blew a 3-0 lead in a 6-4 loss to Erath.
Patterson scored three runs in the top of the first inning, but Erath came back with a run each in the bottom of the second and third innings and two each in the bottom of fifth and sixth innings for a 6-3 lead.
The Jills managed just a single run in their final at bat.
PHS’ Taylor Hall took the loss for Patterson. In six innings, she surrendered six runs (five earned) on seven hits. She walked four and struck out six.
Morris led the ’Jills with a 1-for-3 performance with a double, an RBI and a walk, while McIntyre finished 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs, and both Cait. Fontenot and Car. Fontenot finished 1-for-4 with a run.
The ’Jills will conclude their regular season Wednesday when they host Morgan City in a non-district game. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. Patterson also will celebrate senior night following the game.
Lady Panthers fall
The Berwick Lady Panthers fell to defending Class 5A state champion Hahnville High School, 12-0, on the road on Monday.
No individual statistics were available.
The Lady Panthers (14-13 overall, 7-5 in District 9-3A play) will close out their regular season Wednesday with a 4 p.m. non-district matchup with Lutcher at home.
