Lady Eagles run-rule Vermilion Catholic

The Central Catholic Lady Eagles continued their dominance in District 8-1A with an 11-1 victory against Vermilion Catholic in six innings Monday.

While Vermilion Catholic plated a run in the bottom of the first after holding Central Catholic scoreless in the top of the frame, the Lady Eagles scored in every other inning, including three runs in the second and four in the third.

Bridgette Swan and Olivia Crawford led the Lady Eagles at the plate. Swan finished 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs, while Crawford turned in a 4-for-4 performance with two RBIs and three runs. Other top contributors included Brittany Longman, 3-for-4, an RBI and two runs; Caroline Byrne, 3-for-4, a double and a run; Abbie Bergeron, 2-for-3, an RBI; Kimberly Russo, 2-for-4, an RBI and a run; and Amanda Barron, 1-for-2, an RBI and a run.

Megan Landry earned the win on the mound as she surrendered an earned run on four hits and struck out five in six innings of work.

The Lady Eagles will return to action today when they travel to Gueydan for another district contest. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. Central Catholic is 20-5 overall and 6-0 in District 8-1A play.
