La. Shrimp & Petroleum Festival offers a variety of tasty food

MORGAN CITY, La. -- Shrimp cooked many different ways is among the highlights of food offered by professional vendors under the U.S. 90 bridge during the Louisiana Shrimp and Petroleum Festival.

Coconut and fried shrimp on a stick, shrimp po’boys, boiled shrimp, and shrimp and oyster baskets will be sold, according to Lee Darce, festival assistant and vendor chairwoman.

Among the food vendors who will be located under the bridge is Gyro Connection from Texas City, Texas, featuring gyros and Greek salads along with barbecue shrimp po’boys and more.

All the normal fare also will be offered as well including funnel cakes, blooming onions and various meats on sticks.

Non-profit organizations will be selling food in Lawrence Park.

Among them are Central Catholic’s hamburger booth; the Pride of Patterson Order of the Eastern Star selling fried fish, white beans, barbecue dinners and snowballs; Cooper’s Troopers selling funnel cakes, blooming onions and eggplant with shrimp bisque; Holy Family Church with Vietnamese cuisine; and Prince Hall Lodge selling fried fish with French fries, chicken wings and cracklin’.

Food vendors under the bridge run in conjunction with the carnival, while the non-profit organizations selling food in the park have their own hours of operation.

There are 32 food vendors scheduled and eight will be non-profit organizations.

The schedule is:

Friday

—5 p.m. to midnight: Carnival, Mitchell Brothers Amusements.

—5 to 11 p.m.: Cajun Culinary Classic (Lawrence Park).

Saturday

—Noon to midnight: Carnival, Mitchell Brothers Amusements.

—Noon to 11 p.m.: Cajun Culinary Classic (Lawrence Park).

Sunday

—Noon to midnight: Carnival, Mitchell Brothers Amusements.

—Noon to 11 p.m.: Cajun Culinary Classic (Lawrence Park).

Monday

—Noon to 9 p.m.: Carnival, Mitchell Brothers Amusements.

—11 a.m. to 5 p.m.: Cajun Culinary Classic (Lawrence Park).
