Juveniles admit to Pierre Part vandalism

PIERRE PART — Two juveniles, one 9 year old and the other 10 years old, admitted to vandalizing the Pierre Part Store and Pierre Car Wash, according to a news release from Assumption Parish Sheriff Mike Waguespack.

Deputies responded to a complaint of vandalism at the Pierre Part Store on Sept. 23, Waguespack said. One of the owners stated that he heard a noise from behind the store and located two male juveniles behind the store, he said.

The juveniles later confessed to detectives that they entered the lumber yard through a hole in the fence and began playing in trucks that were parked inside the building, he said. One of the juveniles drove one of the trucks into another truck and into a garage door causing heavy damage to the vehicles and building, Waguespack said.

They admitted to spraying fire extinguishers into the building, as well and both admitted to vandalizing a Jeep belonging to one of the store owners, which was reported in August, he said.

While confessing, one of the juveniles admitted to vandalizing the Pierre Car Wash, which was caught on video surveillance. The juvenile smashed the glass on a money machine with a rock.

The 10-year-old was arrested this week for all three crimes. He was charged with three counts of criminal damage to property with estimated damage of more than $11,000 and three counts of criminal trespassing, Waguespack said. He was booked and later released back to his mother.

The 9-year-old was not arrested, because under Louisiana law those who have not reached the age of 10 years are exempt from criminal responsibility.
