Jerry Adolph Landry

June 21, 1926 — September 23, 2011

Jerry Adolph Landry, 85, a native of Pharr Island and a resident of Berwick, passed away Friday, Sept. 23, 2011, at his home.

Jerry was born on June 21, 1926, the son of Adolph and Ella Verret Landry. Later in life he married Elizabeth Hebert, and she survives.

Jerry was a veteran, serving in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. Jerry fought in Okinawa, Japan, receiving a Purple Heart for injuries he received. Jerry was a long-time boat and port captain, and he loved being outdoors.

Survivors include two sons, Steve Landry and wife Annette of Morgan City, and Glynn Landry and wife Mary of Dallas; three daughters, Jerri Ann Chesteen and husband David of Bush, Brenda LaMartiniere and husband Rickey of Bayou Vista, and Rexine Landry Squires, of Pensacola, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Jerry is also survived by one sister, Barbara Clark of Morgan City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Reginald Landry; and three brothers, Earl Landry, James “Tootsie” Landry and Irvin “Red” Landry.

A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011, at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Berwick.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of mass at the church.

Jerry will be laid to rest in the Berwick Mausoleum with military honors provided by the East St. Mary Veterans Funeral Squad.
