Mr. James Shields, a native of Sorrell and a resident of Port Arthur, Texas, answered the call of his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 in Port Arthur, ending his struggle with illness.
He attended public school in Port Arthur and Jeanerette. He was a United States Army veteran and retired from Morton Salt Company after 39 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one son, one sister and three brothers.
Those who remain to cherish his memories are his two daughters, Mrs. Henry (Patricia) Smith of New Iberia and Sheila Shields of Palm Bay, Florida; one son, Kenneth Shields (Keisha) of Bossier City; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren; daughters of the heart, Marquita Manuel, Valerie Bowie (Troy), Anita Drexler; two devoted sisters, Mrs. Clarence (Viola) Rhine of Jeanerette and Mrs. Robert (Margie) Mitchell of Port Arthur; two brothers, Millie Shield of Port Arthur and Edward Shields (Sherry) of Houston, Texas; three brothers-in-law; one sister-in-law; a dear and devoted niece; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, May 12, at Jones Funeral Home in Jeanerette, with a viewing from 9 a.m. until service time. Burial will follow in Sorrell Community Cemetery under the direction of Gabriel Funeral Home in Port Arthur, Texas and Jones Funeral Home of Jeanerette/ Morgan City/ Franklin.
