HOOPS: Eagles win on the road against Loreauville

The Central Catholic boys’ basketball team improved to 4-1 with a 60-37 win over Loreauville (2-5) on Monday.
Lloyd Grogan led the Eagles with 20 points, six rebounds, five assists, four steals and four blocks; Dontrell Brown had 14 points, four steals, three assists, three rebounds and he was 1-for-2 from behind the arc; and Josh Singleton had nine points, four steals, three assists, three rebounds and he hit his only three-point attempt.
The Eagles will have the rest of the week off before hosting White Castle (6-3) on Monday at the Matchbox.
The Eagles junior varsity also won, 45-33, with Lamar Grogan leading the team with 12 points and Brent Green added 10 points.
MCHS hangs on to beat Thibodaux
The Morgan City boys’ basketball team held off Class 5A Thibodaux (2-5) on Monday for a 53-49 win.
Jalen Johnson led MCHS with 18 points and seven rebounds; Tyrin Watts had 14 points and six rebounds; Buddy Humphrey had eight points and four rebounds; Derrick Walker had seven points; Malcolm Watkins had four points and nine rebounds; and Eric Walker had two points.
The Tigers will compete in the Ellender tournament starting Thursday at 3:30 p.m. against H.L. Bourgeois (7-2).
Lady Eagles roll to easy win
The Central Catholic girls’ basketball team also won big on Monday with a 43-17 victory over Loreauville.
Randi Brown and Meo Knight scored 12 points each with Brown adding four steals, three assists, three rebounds, a block and she was 2-for-4 from behind the arc.
Knight had five rebounds, three assists, 10 steals and a blocked shot in the win. Gee Garrett grabbed four rebounds and had a blocked shot with two points; Carlie Boagnie had three steals and two points; and Megan Landry had four rebounds, an assist and two points.
CCHS (9-1) will travel to face Westgate (8-4) on Friday.
