HMS top graduates lead 2012-13 class
Hanson Memorial High School will honor its top graduates during commencement exercises at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Church of the Assumption in Franklin.
Leading the Class of 2013 are Valedictorian Emily Marie Chauvin and Salutatorian Leigh Anne Nugent.
Emily Marie Chauvin has a 4.0 grade point average. She is the daughter of Mark and Michelle Chauvin and plans to attend McNeese State University to major in agriculture-business.
She is a recipient of TOPS, the McNeese Academic Scholarship, Louisiana Farm Bureau Scholarship and University of Louisiana at Lafayette Centennial Scholarship.
Chauvin’s achievements and participations include the Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Award, Principal Leadership Award, 12th Grade Student of the Year, Student Council president, 4-H Club president, Campus Ministry Team, Farm Bureau Outstanding Member, 4-H member, 2012 Grand Champion Premiere Exhibitor at the St. Mary Parish Livestock Show, Acadiana District Live Stock Show and LSU Jr. Livestock Show, Torch Award of Knowledge, Tulane University Book Award for Outstanding Academic and Community Service and District Rally in geometry and chemistry.
Chauvin has also participated in Student Council, varsity cheerleading, five-year Varsity Cross Country team, 4-year baseball statistician, 4-H University Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Conference, National Honor Society Member Retreat, 4-H Camp counselor, LSU Leadership Retreat, Louisiana Coastal Preservation volunteer, photography and is a member of the Church of the Assumption.
Leigh Anne Nugent holds a 3.96 grade point average and is the daughter of Steve and Lisa Nugent. She plans to attend Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge to major in physical therapy.
She has received scholarships from TOPS, the St. Mary Parish Chamber of Commerce and the Centerville Knights of Columbus.
Nugent has been a member of the National Honor Society, National Society of High School Scholars, Gold Group Honor Roll, cheerleading, class medals, Pro Life member, participated in the Steubenville and Youth Rally Retreat and was a Trailblazer and Big Sister.
Her activities also include cheerleader co-captain, choir mistress and member, pep squad member, 10th-grade class officer, Campus Ministry and National Honor Society.
