Hanson blanks Country Day in opener

METAIRIE _ John Guienze and Cameron Stovall belted homers here Thursday, leading the Hanson Memorial Tigers to a 15-0 over Country Day in the Class 1A bidistrict pairings at Wally Pontiff Field.

Patureau wins national title

Kameron Patureau of Bayou L’Ourse won a national championship in the girls’ junior 9-11 class at the James Stewart AMA Spring Championship presented by Parts Unlimited and THOR at Freestone Raceway in Worthan, Texas. The event is the largest AMA sanctioned event in Texas, according to her mother, Jessie Patureau. The event was held March 19-22. The national championship is Patureau’s first. Every champion at the event has the opportunity to ride at the “Champions Ride Day” with motocross racer James “Bubba Stewart at his home in Haines City, Fla. MCHS duo advances to quarters at state tourney

Berwick will host St. Louis

Berwick High School pitcher Brannon Melancon and the rest of the No. 15-ranked Panthers will be taking on No. 18 seed St. Louis Friday at 5:30 p.m. in Berwick in Class 3A first-round baseball action. (The Daily Review/Geoff Stoute)

Berwick may have had a tough regular season plagued with one-run losses, but going into the postseason, head coach Mike Thomas said he likes his team’s demeanor.
