Tigers practicing under first-year coach Tregle

The Morgan City Tigers began fall practice Monday under new head coach Scott Tregle. The Tigers will be looking to improve upon a winless 2013 season. Morgan City’s preseason action includes a scrimmage Aug. 22 at Berwick at 6 p.m. The Tigers then will compete in the Morgan City High School Jamboree Aug. 29 against Patterson at 8 p.m. Morgan City will open its season at home Sept. 5 against White Castle at 7 p.m. The photos are from Tuesday’s practice. Berwick Lady Panthers prepping for season

The Berwick Lady Panthers are preparing for their upcoming season. The squad finished 20-17 a year ago, falling to St. Louis in the regional round of the Division 3 postseason. The Lady Panthers will participate in scrimmages against Morgan City (freshmen) Monday at home at 4:30 p.m.; Ellender at home Tuesday with junior varsity, varsity and freshmen at 4:30 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., respectively; and a scrimmage that also will include Terrebonne/South Terrebonne. The Lady Panthers will play junior varsity and varsity action in the scrimmage at 4 p.m. and 5 p.m., respectively. Berwick will participate in jamboree action at Morgan City Aug. 28 before beginning its season at home Sept. 2 against H.L. Bourgeois. The photos are action from Tuesday’s practice. ’Jacks put on shoulder pads for fall work

Monday marked the first official day of fall practice for football teams across the state. Teams must wear helmets and shoulder pads until Thursday when they are allowed to put on full gear. Patterson was on the field Monday afternoon. The Lumberjacks are coming off a 10-3 season in which the squad advanced to the Class 3A quarterfinals. Patterson will have an early tuneup as it will face Thibodaux at 7 p.m. Friday in the Louisiana High School Coaches Association Officials Clinic at E.D. White at 7 p.m. On Aug. 21, Patterson will host St. James in a 5:30 p.m. scrimmage. Patterson will meet Morgan City at the Morgan City High School Jamboree Aug. 29 at 8 p.m. before opening its regular season Sept. 5 at home vs. Brother Martin. Above is action from Monday’s practice. Morgan City High School athletes volunteer at Maison Jardin

Maison Jardin had a carnival for residents on July 10, and Morgan City High School athletes volunteered at the event as part of the community service program that new head football coach/athletic director Scott Tregle instituted for male athletes.
