Teurlings Catholic, which will play against Morgan City High School Saturday, has a local connection in junior Jonathan Ratcliff. Ratcliff is the grandson of Harold and Rosalie Smith and Barbara and Randy Ratcliff of Morgan City. Ratcliff, 16, recently was selected to the Louisiana Select Olympic Development Program squad for 17-year olds. He trains and competes through the year with Cajun Soccer Club of Lafayette. This past summer he played on an U15 international inaugural travel team that consisted of players from across the United States. The group trained in Avon, Connecticut, before playing in England and Wales. The team lost just one of its three matches by a single goal. The Morgan City Tigers began their season with a bang as the Tigers defeated Terrebonne, 1-0 at Tiger Stadium Thursday.
Patterson High School knocked off Abbeville High School 62-55 in overtime in both team’s season opener Thursday in Patterson. Patterson and Abbeville combined for 90 free throw attempts in the contest as Patterson was 26 of 56 from the line and Abbeville was 19 of 34 from the free throw stripe. The Patterson Lumberjills used a big fourth quarter to force overtime against Abbeville before knocking them off in the extra period for a 62-55 win in both team’s season opener Thursday.
Wynesha Jenkins scored a team-high 17 points, leading the Franklin Lady Hornets to a 50-43 victory over the Delcambre Lady Panthers Friday at the FSHS Gym.
