Vermilion Catholic wins over HMS Tigers

ABBEVILLE _ The Vermilion Catholic Eagles tallied 33 second quarter points en route to a 47-14 win over the Hanson Memorial Tigers in a battle of the two top teams in District 7-A here Friday at Vermilion Catholic Stadium.
VCHS (9-0) remained the District 7-A front-runner with a perfect 5-0 win while the HMS Tigers slipped to second place at 6-3 overall and 4-2 in league play.
Vermilion Catholic took a 14-0 lead in the first quarter before the HMS Tigers scored 14 points in the second quarter. Vermilion Catholic tacked on 33 points in the second stanza, securing a 47-14 halftime advantage.
Hanson’s Jeff Soulis led the Tigers attack with 11 carries for 72 yards while Alex Lovell carried four times for 19 yards.
Hanson (6-3, 4-2) will travel to face Christian Life on Friday in non-district action.
