Trio of squads make volleyball playoffs

A trio of Tri-City squads has qualified for prep volleyball postseason play.
Central Catholic, Berwick and Morgan City all have made the postseason field.
Central Catholic is Division 5’s fourth-ranked squad and therefore has earned a first-round bye, while both Berwick and Morgan City qualified in Division 3 and will play first-round contests. Berwick is Division 3’s 11th seed, while Morgan City is the 16th seed in Division 3.
Berwick will host No. 22 seed West Feliciana Wednesday at 5 p.m. Admission is $6 for adults and $3 for students.
Morgan City will host No. 17 seed Evangel Christian Thursday at 5 p.m. Admission to that contest is $5 for adults and $2 for students.
Central Catholic will host the winner of the matchup between No. 13 Northside Christian and No. 20 Westminster Christian in regional action. The Northside Christian-Westminster Christian contest is set for 6 p.m. Thursday at Northside Christian in Crowley.
All regional round winners will qualify for the state volleyball tournament, set for Nov. 14-16 at the Pontchartrain Center in Kenner.
Central Catholic has advanced to the state semifinals for the past four years.
Other Central Catholic district opponents who have advanced to the postseason include No. 16 seed Houma Christian, who will host No. 17 seed Ecole Classique, while the Lady Eagles’ district foe, West St. John, enters the postseason at a No. 14 seed and will play Patrick Taylor, the No. 19 seed.
Metairie Park Country Day, who is a multi-year state champion, is Division 5’s top seed. The New Orleans-based school eliminated Central Catholic a year ago in the semifinals.
In Division 3, Berwick and Morgan City’s district foes, E.D. White and Lutcher, both made the postseason and both received first-round byes. E.D. White, the defending state runner-up in Division 3, is the No. 2 seed, while Lutcher, a quarterfinalist a year ago in Division 2, is the No. 4 seed this year in Division 3.
