The Morgan City Tigers’ bowling team advanced to the state’s western bi-regional bowling round with two wins Monday in regional play, including a come-from-behind victory against South Terrebonne to punch their ticket.
While No. 5 Morgan City (10-4) eased past Thibodaux, 24-3, in its first game, the Tigers found themselves trailing 11.5-4.5 entering the third game of its match against No. 4 South Terrebonne (8-5)
The Tigers responded by taking all five of the final games and accompanying additional points to take a 15.5-11.5 win.
In the third game, Jayson Hidalgo bowled a 203, Kody Pederson had a 155, Jonathan LaCombe had a 200, Lang Bui, 184, Austin Courtney, 194 and Chandler Delaune, 264.
Morgan City’s top bowlers in the match included: Delaune (176, 189, 264) 629 series, Austin Courtney (206, 190, 194) 590 series, Hidalgo (211, 174, 203) 588 series, Pederson (172, 235, 155) 562 series, Bui (180, 189, 184) 553 series, Jonathan LaCombe (200) and Jonathan Jones (151).
In the Tigers’ first-round game against No. 12 Thibodaux (0-11), Morgan City took five of six points in all three games en route to the easy win.
Morgan City’s top bowlers included: Bui (166, 210) 510 series, Courtney (199, 198), Delaune (155, 213), LaCombe (151, 182), Jones (168) and Pederson (158).
No. 6 Berwick High School (7-6) also advanced to the second round after routing No. 11 E.D. White (1-11) 26-1. The Panthers nearly took all 27 points, falling in one matchup in the last game by two pins.
Top bowlers for Berwick included: Quentin Kelly (156, 200) 493 series, Paul Reed (233, 179), Aaron Barrilleaux (197, 189), Brandon Lemoine (159, 170), Chase Landry (166) and Bryce Waters (160).
In the second round, the Panthers fell to No. 3 H.L. Bourgeois (10-2) 18-9.
Kelly bowled a high series with a 588, including individual games of 202, 199 and 187. Other top bowlers included: Reed (216, 158, 171) 545 series, Lemoine (214, 155) 505 series, Landry (197) 476 series and Christopher Beltran (158).
Central Catholic also fell in first-round action.
While the Eagles kept their match with Ellender close, tying the Patriots at four after the first game and trailing 9-7 after two games, Ellender pulled away in the third game.
Top bowlers for Central Catholic included Josh Abney (243, 164) 546 series, John Carmody (175, 183) 487 series and Kyle Autin (175).
Along with Morgan City, top seed Vandebilt Catholic (13-0), H.L. Bourgeois and Terrebonne (10-2) all advanced.
In single’s action, Kelly also advanced to Bi-Regionals after recording a 196 average.
Other local participants in singles’ action who bowled in the final matches of the day were Patterson High’s Mark Lemoine, 166; Abney, 159; and Autin, 143.
