Prep hoops power rankings

With the girls’ prep hoops season winding down, two teams were in position to make the playoffs, according to the latest Louisiana High School Athletic Association unofficial power rankings released prior to Tuesday’s action.
Central Catholic, ranked No. 1 in Class 1A, already has sewn up a postseason berth, while Morgan City, ranked No. 29 in Class 4A, is trying to make its first postseason appearance since 2009.
Two other girls’ squads, Patterson and Berwick, will not make the playoffs. The Lumberjills are ranked No. 48 in the latest Class 3A poll, while Berwick, also a Class 3A school, is ranked No. 63.
The girls’ regular season will end Saturday, and postseason brackets will be released Monday. The top 32 seeds make the postseason with the top 16 seeds hosting first-round games.
On the boys’ side, with still a little more than a week of action remaining, Patterson is ranked No. 9 in Class 3A, while Central Catholic is No. 14 in Class 1A.
Meanwhile, Berwick is No. 51 in Class 3A and Morgan City, No. 54 in Class 4A.
Richwood’s boys are ranked No. 1 in Class 3A, and Peabody is Class 4A’s top-ranked squad. Arcadia is No. 1 in Class 1A.
On the girls’ side, Warren Easton is No. 1 in Class 4A, and Ville Platte is No. 1 in Class 3A.
