Point Coupee Central nips HMS Lady Tigers in overtime
MORGANZA _ Point Coupee Central needed an 8-2 run to edge the Hanson Memorial Lady Tigers, 50-44, in the opening round of the Class 1A girls basketball playoffs here Thursday night.
Pointe Coupee Central jumped outfront by an 8-6 lead at the end of the first quarter. PCC went on a 12-7 run in the second stanza for a 20-13 halftime cushion. The Hanson Lady Tigers struck back with a vengeance in the third quarter, securing a 29-27 lead thanks to a 16-7 run. In the fourth quarter, PCC managed to outpoint HMS by a 15-13 margin, tying the game at 42-all at the end of regulation. In the overtime period, PCC gained the upper hand following an 8-2 run before taking the 50-44 overtime win.
Pointe Coupee Central’s Makaylia Cotton scored a game-high 19 points to help her team.
Macie Guillotte led the Hanson Lady Tigers with 18 points with Haley Bollinger also finishing in double digits with 12 points.
Rounding out the scoring for HMS were: Kimberly Sonnier, 4; Alyssa Young, 4; Baylee Young, 4 and Sarah Sonnier, 2.
IN CLASS B, Stanley toppled the Centerville Lady Bulldogs 80-23 in opening round action.
