CCHS uses big innings to top Berwick, 13-5

Central Catholic capped its regular season with a 13-5 victory against Berwick in softball action Wednesday.
Central Catholic never trailed taking a 6-0 lead after two innings.
Berwick closed the gap to 6-3 in the top of the third inning, but the Lady Eagles responded with four more runs in the third and fourth innings combined for a 10-3 lead.
Berwick plated a run in the top of the fifth followed by three Central Catholic runs in the bottom of the frame.
The Lady Panthers finished the scoring with a run in the sixth.
Megan Landry earned the win for the Lady Eagles. In seven innings, she surrendered five runs — four earned — on 10 hits with three walks and fanned eight.
Offensively, Landry had three hits, including a triple and two RBIs; while Hallie Autin also had three hits, including a triple and two runs. Other top contributors included Brooke Lipari, two hits, including a triple, three RBIs and two runs; Bridgette Swan and Gee Garrett, each two hits and a run; Kaitlyn Gros, a hit, two RBIs and a run; Kimberly Russo, a hit, an RBI and a run; and Brittany Longman, a hit and an RBI.
Maria Trevino finished 3-for-4 with an RBI for Berwick, while Shannon Theriot was 2-for-5 with an RBI, two stolen bases and a run. Other top contributors included Emma Hover, 2-for-4, an RBI; Maddie Gray, 1-for-4, an RBI and a run; and Regan Bowers, 1-for-4, an RBI.
Sydney Jambois suffered the loss for Berwick as she pitched seven innings.
Central Catholic (24-3) and Berwick (13-21) now will await their postseason opponents today when the Louisiana High School Athletic Association releases playoff brackets. Central Catholic will be at home in the bi-district round, while Berwick likely will be on the road.
Berwick upsets Lutcher
Earlier Tuesday, the Lady Panthers capped off their regular season home schedule with a 6-2 upset victory against Lutcher, Class 4A’s No. 5 ranked team in the latest LHSAA unofficial power rankings.
Berwick, ranked 20th in Class 3A, broke open a 1-1 tie with a five-run fifth inning.
Lutcher added another run in the top of the seventh.
Lutcher and Berwick had six hits apiece.
Rennen DeLatte earned the win in relief of starter Shelby Bergeron. Delatte pitched four innings, while Bergeron tossed the first three.
Theriot finished 2-for-4 with a run, while Mary Jordan Melancon was 2-for-3 with two runs.
Patterson run-rules Tara
The Patterson Lumberjills closed out their regular season at home with a 16-0 run-rule victory against Tara in three innings Wednesday.
Taylor Hall earned the win with nine strikeouts.
Carli McIntyre led the squad with a 3-for-3 performance with five RBIs, while Rachel Easley was 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Gaylen Grogan, Lucy Bennett, Hailey Sehon and Taylor Hall had two hits apiece.
On Tuesday, the Lumberjills fell at French Settlement 3-2.
Patterson (14-8) now will await its postseason destination, which will be on the road in the first round.
