Bowling regionals begin today
Tri-City area boys’ and girls’ bowling teams will begin play today and Tuesday, respectively, in Houma-Morgan City Regional Tournament at Creole Lanes in Houma.
In boys’ action, Morgan City (8-4), Berwick (6-5) and Central Catholic (1-10) all will compete in 1:30 p.m. contests today.
No. 5 Morgan City, the 2013 state runner-up, will meet No. 12 Thibodaux (0-10), while No. 6 Berwick will face No. 11 E.D. White (1-11). No. 10 Central Catholic (1-10) will play No. 7 Ellender (6-6).
The winner of the Morgan City/Thibodaux contest will play No. 4 seed South Terrebonne (8-4) at 3:30 p.m., while the winner of Berwick/E.D. White will face No. 3 seed H.L. Bourgeois (9-2). The Central Catholic/Ellender winner will play No. 2 Terrebonne (9-2).
Vandebilt (12-0) is the regional’s top seed and will face the winner of No. 8 South Lafourche (4-7) and No. 9 Central Lafourche (4-7) in a 3:30 p.m. contest.
The top four seeds in the single-elimination tournament received a bye, while the top four teams remaining in the tournament after two rounds will advance to the Bi-Regional tournament at Petro Bowl in Lake Charles as well as singles bowlers.
In girls’ action, Morgan City (12-0) leads the area field in the single-elimination tournament with the region’s top seed.
In the girls’ bracket, the top six seeds received a first-round bye.
Morgan City, No. 2 seed H.L. Bourgeois (11-1), No. 3 Vandebilt (10-2), No. 4 Ellender (6-5), No. 5 Berwick (5-7) and No. 6 Central Lafourche (5-7) all will not play until 3:30 p.m.
Morgan City will face the winner of the 1:30 p.m. contest between No. 8 Central Catholic (3-8) and No. 9 South Terrebonne (2-10).
On the other side of the bracket, H.L. Bourgeois will play the winner of No. 7 Terrebonne (4-8) and No. 10 South Lafourche (0-12).
Meanwhile, Ellender will face Berwick at 3:30 p.m., while Vandebilt Catholic, the defending girls’ state champion, will face Central Lafourche at 3:30 p.m.
The top four girls’ teams after two rounds of play will move on to Bi-Regional action at Petro Bowl in Lake Charles as well as singles bowlers.
