Patterson blows out
West St. Mary
The Patterson Lumberjacks used a big second-half to turn a close game with West St. Mary into a 60-28 rout in Patterson.
While the Lumberjacks led just 21-18 at halftime, Patterson outscored West St. Mary 39-10 in the second half, including a 17-2 fourth-quarter advantage, for the victory.
“It was definitely a tale of two halves,” Patterson coach Ryan Taylor said. “The first half we were just going through the motions. They were playing a zone and we allowed them to control the tempo. The second half we played a pace we wanted to and were able to get into a rhythm. The defensive intensity was much better in the second half. I was happy to see the guys respond after halftime.”
Taylan Grogan led the Lumberjacks with 12 points, while Nehemiah Augustus also reached double figures with 11.
Other top contributors included Jedrick Gunner and Dontrell Benjamin, nine each; Larry Turner, eight; and D.J. Jones, three, which came on a near half-court buzzer beater at the end of the third quarter.
Patterson (10-2) will continue non-district play Friday when it travels to Baton Rouge to take on Catholic High in a 7:15 p.m. contest.
