Helping Hearts banquet is Saturday
The Tri-City Helping Hearts Foundation will host a benefit gospel banquet Saturday, and Don Cravins, mayor of Opelousas and former state legislator, will be guest speaker.
Proceeds from the banquet will help the foundation fulfill its purpose of assisting area citizens needing financial assistance with the burial expenses of a loved one.
Musical entertainment will be provided by Marcus Davis of Jennings.
While serving in the state legislature, Cravins was named “Legislator of the Year” by the Louisiana Education Association.
He also co-authored legislation that reformed the criminal justice system, helping to work toward closing the Tallulah Prison, and switching the focus from incarceration to community-based programs providing counseling and treatment.
Cravins is now serving his second term as mayor of Opelousas.
The banquet will take place at 4 p.m. Saturday at the AARP building, 4014 Chennault Street in Morgan City. The organization is seeking sponsors for the event. Businesses and organizations who wish to participate are asked to help sponsor the event with a donation of $300 which will include six tickets.
