Hanson Lady Tigers notch consecutive District 8-A wins

LAFAYETTE _ After knocking off No. 1 ranked Vermilion Catholic last week, the Hanson Memorial Lady Tigers dominated the Ascension Episcopal Lady Gators 48-26 here Tuesday in District 8-A action.

The No. 6-ranked Hanson Memorial Lady Tigers dominated from the opening tip against Ascension Episcopal with a 14-4 first quarter advantage. Hanson stretched its lead to 26-11 at intermission before racing outfront by a one-sided 36-18 cushion at the end of three quarters. Hanson iced away their second consecutive district win with the 48-26 victory over AEHS.

Katie Sonnier tossed in 16 points to lead the Hanson Lady Tigers. Katie Sonnier canned a pair of three-pointers and five deuces for her game-high 16 points.

Other top scorers for the Lady Tigers were: Macie Guillotte, 9; Brittany Broussard, 6; Emily Sonnier, 6; Casey Fitzgerald, 3; Madeline Weber, 2; Alyssa Young, 2; Olivia Luke, 2; Sarah Sonnier, 2 and Bailey Young, 1.


The Hanson Memorial Lady Tigers stunned the top-ranked Vermilion Catholic Lady Eagles 43-33 District 8-A overtime victory last Tuesday.

Hanson’s Lady Tigers collected the 43-33 victory with a 12-2 run in the extra period.

Leading scorers for the Hanson Lady Tigers were: Katie Sonnier, 19 points (5-3 pointers); Brittany Brousard, 10 points (one 3-pointer, 1-2 pointer, 5 of 8 free throws) Macie Guillotte, 7; Kim Sonnier, 5; Haley Bollinger, 1 and Emily Sonnier, 1.

HMS will travel to face Central Catholic on Friday in District 8-A action.
