Ham radio operators plan field day
MORGAN CITY, La. -- The Bayouland Emergency Amateur Radio Service will take part in a ham radio National Field Day Saturday and Sunday.
This is an annual event, with participants throughout the United States and various foreign countries. It is designed to enable groups who have an interest in being available for emergencies to test their equipment, Bayouland Emergency Amateur Radio Service President Jackie Price said.
It ensures everything is in working order and gives an opportunity to train new operators, Price said.
It is very important for this area with hurricane season approaching, Price said.
The event is a 24-hour test beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday and ending at 1 p.m. Sunday.
The local group will be working from the official start testing equipment and trying to see how many stations they are able to contact.
The official radio room is upstairs in the old bank building at the corner of First and Everett streets in downtown Morgan City. The entrance is at 201 Everett St., and a sign will be outside.
The event is open to the public.
