Golden Age Club holds annual crawfish boil
The Franklin Golden Age Club held its annual crawfish boil during its monthly meeting on May 17 with 26 members attending. The meeting was opened by Club President Joyce Champagne with Floyd LeBlanc saying the prayer and leading the Pledge of Allegiance. Treasurer Floyd LeBlanc read the treasury report from the April meeting. In absence of Secretary EmmaDel Broussard, the minutes from the April meeting were dispensed.
Drawings for Mother of the Year and Father of the Year awards will be held at the June meeting.
Nine members of the club attended the Pelican State Golden Age Convention in April, held at the Crown Plaza in Lafayette. Among those attending were state co-director and district representative Howard Winston. Club member Mable Alleman conducted the necrology service honoring local members deceased within the last year. By drawing, club member Karl Young was selected Mr. Pelican State and Rose Bealer of Terrytown Golden Age Club was selected Miss Pelican State at the convention. A meeting of state officers will be held in July to discuss the location of next year’s convention.
Ballots will be available at the June and July meetings for members present to vote for Member of the Year. The member selected will be revealed at the August meeting.
Celebrating birthdays in May are Delores Johnson Broussard and Doris Giroir.
Next month’s meeting will be held June 21 and will include hot dogs and watermelon furnished by the club.
