Girl Scout CEO to visit New Orleans July 24

NEW ORLEANS — Girl Scouts Louisiana East will welcome its national chief executive officer Anna Maria Chávez to New Orleans by holding a luncheon on July 24 at the council’s headquarters in Jefferson.

Chávez, who has been at the helm of Girl Scouts of the USA since 2011, will be in New Orleans as an honoree at the National Council of La Raza annual convention, accepting its Graciela Olivarez La Raza Award for her contribution in promoting the interests of Hispanic Americans.

At the luncheon, Chávez will speak about the opportunities and challenges currently facing girls. The luncheon will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Special guests include the 2012-13 Girl Scout Gold Award recipients and the council’s Women of Distinction.

Chávez first introduced the “To Get Her There” advocacy and fundraising cause campaign dedicated to girls’ leadership issues during the Girl Scouts’ centennial in 2012.

The purpose of this multiyear effort is to help break down societal barriers that hinder girls from leading and achieving success in everything from technology and science to business and industry.

The luncheon is free to attend but space is limited, therefore registration is necessary. To register for the luncheon online go to www.gsle.org.
