Giandelone crowned AARP Mother’s Day Queen
Carolyn Giandelone was crowned St. Mary AARP Mother’s Day Queen during the organization’s May 6 meeting at the St. Mary Senior Citizens Center in Morgan City. She received a $25 check along with the title.
During the meeting, members were treated to a meal of meat sauce spaghetti, bread and salad at their monthly meeting. The meal was sponsored by Klutts Jewelers and prepared by organization members Pat Fryer, Linda Darce and Mac McNemar.
The opening prayer and pledge were done by AnnEtta Lombardo and the national anthem was sung by Gordon Smith. Chairing the meeting was Vice President Curtis Leonard.
Speakers included Len Klutts, Lisa Patterson and Shirley Akers. Klutts also selected the winning name for the Mother’s Day queen random drawing.
Patterson spoke about Maison Jardin’s upcoming activities and a limited time special discount for individuals wanting to become residents of the senior living home.
Akers spoke about an upcoming seminar at Cypress Bayou Casino in Charenton. On June 10, the seminar will feature District Attorney Phil Haney and U.S. Congressman Charles Boustany (R-Lafayette) will be giving a senior citizen educational seminar. Members were reminded that the organization’s Chapter Meal is at 6 p.m. May 28 at the Petroleum Club of Morgan City. A pot luck dinner and bingo is set for Monday.
Members were also notified that there is still availability for the Branson trip set Nov. 24 to 28 and the AARP National Convention trip to Atlanta set Oct. 3 to 7. Both trips require a $100 deposit.
The next St. Mary AARP meeting will be June 3. Members will be treated to hot dogs with chili and watermelon sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. Arvin Alleman, and Quality Diesel. Kathleen Schexnaider with Regional Healthcare will be a featured speaker.
