Garage accident claims life of Morgan City man

Merlin Price III, 24, died Friday evening at the Russo Boat Landing after being trapped under a vehicle on which he had been working.

At 10:37 p.m., the Morgan City Police Department received a call concerning a subject trapped under a vehicle at Russo Boat Landing, where Price lived and acted as caretaker. Officers were able to determine that at some point while Price was working on the vehicle, the jack gave way, allowing the vehicle to fall and crush him.

Price was last seen by his friends working on his truck at about 8:45 p.m. His wife had been trying to contact him to let him know she was stuck in traffic on top of the Atchafalaya River Bridge due to a wreck.

After being unsuccessful in their attempts to find him, his friends returned to his residence at the landing and began to search. They went to the shed and discovered the accident scene.

Price was pronounced dead at the scene by St. Mary Parish Coroner Dr. Chip Metz.
