FSHS girls, boys among HMS Holiday Classic winners

Franklin’s Lady Hornets, West St. Mary Wolfpack, Teurlings’ Lady Rebels and the Franklin Hornets all emerged victorious in the annual Hanson Holiday Classic Basketball Tournament at the Billy Gene Talbot Gymnasium.

In Game 1, the Franklin Lady Hornets nipped the Centerville Lady Bulldogs, 44-40. The West St. Mary Wolfpack toppled the Centerville Bulldogs 60-38 in Game 2. Teurlings’ Lady Rebels defeated the Berwick Lady Panthers 71-19 in Game 3. In the nightcap, the Franklin Hornets rolled past the Delcambre Panthers 51-38.

Four games are on tap for today with the West St. Mary Lady Wolfpack taking on the Morgan City Lady Tigers at 3:30 p.m. in Game 5. The Centerville Bulldogs will battle the Delcambre Panthers in Game 6 in an elimination game at 5 p.m. At 6:30 p.m., the Hanson Memorial Tigers will square off against the North Vermilion Patriots in Game 7. In the final game tonight, the Hanson Memorial Lady Tigers will host the Patterson Lady Jills at 8.

FSHS LADY HORNETS 44, CHS LADY BULLDOGS 40

J’Ashayla Bowers poured in a team-high 15 points, leading the Franklin Lady Hornets to a 44-40 win over the Centerville Lady Bulldogs.

Franklin wiped out an 11-8 first quarter deficit, replacing it with a 23-18 halftime cushion following a 15-7 run in the second period. Centerville managed to outscore Franklin by a slim 11-10 margin in the third quarter as the Lady Hornets nursed a 33-29 advantage. Both teams tallied 11 points each in the final period with the Franklin Lady Hornets earning their second consecutive win over the Centerville Lady Bulldogs in as many nights.

Bowers bagged four deuces and 7 of 9 freebies for her 15 points.

Other top scorers for the Lady Hornets were: Karson Grogan, 9; Anjhae Jolivett, 7; Dalyn Jones, 6; Fabian Small, 6 and Faith Lyons, 2.

Dariel Delasbour led the Lady Bulldogs with a game-high 20 points on three treys, a pair of deuces, along with 7 of 8 free throws. Kya Nerve also scored in double figures for Centerville with 13 points on two treys, two deuces and 3 of 4 free throws.

Other top scorers for the Lady Bulldogs were: Summar White, 5 and Paige Pellerin, 2.

WEST ST. MARY WOLFPACK 60, CENTERVILLE BULLDOGS 38

The West St. Mary Wolfpack benefited from a 38-19 second half flurry en route to the 60-38 victory over the Centerville Bulldogs.

Deandre Gabriel led the Wolfpack in scoring with 14 points while Adonis Sterling and Glenn Marsh finished with 13 and 12 respectively.

Other top scorers for West St. Mary were: Christopher Jones, 8; David Robertson, 5; Keandre Jackson, 3; Otis Harris, 3 and Jerald Hawkins, 2.

Rodrick Taylor led Centerville in scoring with 11 points while Jumanji Washington poured in 10 points. Rounding out the scoring for CHS were: Jaric McDaniel, 7; Zacchaeus Jackson, 7; Quinton Nettles, 2 and Devin Pontiff, 1.

TEURLINGS LADY REBELS 71, BERWICK LADY PANTHERS 19

Cydney Moreau tossed in a game-high 13 points as the Teurlings Lady Rebels blew past the Berwick Lady Panthers 71-19.

Abigail Ohlin led Berwick with seven points.

FRANKLIN HORNETS 51, DELCAMBRE PANTHERS 38

Avery Bell and Jrevon Anderson combined for 36 points, leading the Franklin Hornets to a 51-38 victory over the Delcambre Panthers.

Bell tossed in a game-high 25 points while Anderson finished with 11 points.
