Fryou advances in Principal of the Year competition
Hattie Watts Elementary School Principal Niki Fryou has been named the elementary-level Region III Principal of the Year and now advances to the state Principal of the Year competition.
“On behalf of the entire St. Mary Parish School System, we congratulate Principal Niki Fryou for her selection as the Region III Elementary Principal of the Year,” Superintendent Donald Aguillard said. “Hattie Watts was just recognized as a USDOE Blue Ribbon School for their success in raising student achievement. Thus, it is no surprise that Mrs. Fryou is now recognized as an effective instructionally-minded principal.”
The U.S. Department of Education recognizes public and non-public schools where students demonstrate high achievement or where the achievement gap between different demographic sets of students is narrowing. Fryou and other school officials were recognized at a ceremony in Washington for the school’s attainment of Blue Ribbon status.
Fryou now is one of 24 candidates — one elementary, one middle or junior high and one high school principal from each of eight regions in the state — who will be interviewed by the state selection committee.
