Monday may have just been another day at work for Jean Gros, but it also marked an anniversary of a trade he has done for more than six decades.

The Morgan City Recreation Department kicked off its flag football season Monday at Norman Park in Morgan City. Unlike in the past, this year the football season will not include tackle football because of a lack of signups, Morgan City Youth Recreation Director Seth Thomas said. Games will be played Monday and Tuesday each week. St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert, above, serves at the AARP’s monthly dinner and bingo night held at the St. Mary Senior Citizens Center in Morgan City. Skate park construction under way

City workers began construction Monday to build a concrete slab for a skate park behind Cypress Park in Morgan City. The park will consist of nine apparatuses for skateboards only. The equipment is scheduled to be installed by July 26, Morgan City Mayor Frank “Boo” Grizzaffi said.
