Construction began last week at the site for the new Neighborhood Market Walmart located on La. 70 next to Sonic and is set to open at the beginning of 2015.

Entering Tuesday’s District 3 10-year-old championship contest, St. Mary Central and Morgan City both knew they were headed to the regional round.

Five inmates at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center have been charged with bringing contraband into the jail in connection with a case where inmates uploaded videos and photos to social media websites, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.

Helping Hearts

About 150 people attended the 11th annual Tri-City Helping Hearts Foundation banquet at the St. Mary Seniors Citizen Center in Morgan City. The organization helps families of deceased who cannot afford a proper burial. They serve the communities of Morgan City, Berwick, Patterson and Amelia. American All Star Dance Service Company conducted a dance clinic for the Morgan City Junior High School Tigerettes June 23-27 at the school.
