A district judge has declared a mistrial in the murder trial of Justin Edward Patterson for the May 2013 shooting death of Mikki Jay Dauntain in Morgan City.
The city of Patterson will host four Christmas events this weekend. Friday at 7 p.m. — Judging of Main St. Christmas Lights Saturday at 6 p.m. — PEDSCO Annual Boat Parade Sunday at 12 noon — Annual 4-Legged Friends Parade Sunday at 2 p.m. — Annual Christmas Parade
KATC-TV reports Deputy Jason Hagen died after a shooting while off-duty. The 24-year-old corrections officer at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center had been with the department since February of last year.

(Updated) Morgan City area avoids flooding; community helps flood victims elsewhere

oey Carbonell owner of C-Tech Machine and Fabrication and Teche Trucking has put out a call for donations to help flood victims of what is being called the Great Flood of 2016.
Helping him with his quest is company representatives from G&J Land and Marine, Oceaneering, Teche Towing, and many others.
Area citizens have been dropping off donations all day Sunday and Carbonell's 18-wheeler will being making a trip to one of the area's affected by the ongoing disaster. Donations are still being accepted at C-Tech located at 3446 La. 182 in Berwick. Anyone wishing to donate cleaning supplies, personal hygiene products, food, clothing, baby food and diapers may bring them to C-Tech.
