Ms. Fallon Nicole Mitchell is reigning as Queen Shona XXI for the 2017 Carnival Season. Mitchell is a native and resident of the St. Joseph Community in Franklin. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy and Valencia Mitchell.

The Krewe of Teche celebrated its 45th annual Coronation Ball on February 25, 2017 under the reign of King Quercus XLV Parrish Jude Segura and Queen Virginiana XLV Jeannie Thibodaux Segura.

Reigning over the 2017 Carnival Festivities of the Krewe of Sucrose are Mr. Randy Lee Hanagriff as King Sucrose LXXVII and Miss Kennedi Claire Walden as Queen Sugar LXXVII.

Sheriff investigating missing boat

The St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office marine division is searching for a boat stolen Saturday from Banana Pass in Sweet Bay Lake south of Berwick. The boat is described as a “dead grass green” 19-foot long V-shaped homemade aluminum boat with a welded on 17-gallon gas tank. (Submitted)

Giving for Thanksgiving: Churches invite community to a meal

Pharr Chapel and Walmsley United Methodist churches in Morgan City hosted their annual Thanksgiving dinner Saturday at Pharr Chapel. Sheryl Mashburn, center, of Pharr Chapel, brings Thanksgiving meals to, seated from left, Georgia Carbin, Mary White and Earline Delaune.

For about the past decade, a local United Methodist community has provided a free Thanksgiving meal for area residents.
