Local Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts retired more than 3,000 American flags that were past their prime Saturday, respectfully disposing of the nation’s symbol of freedom and sacrifice.

The seafood industry expects August flooding in south Louisiana to have less of a negative impact on crawfish pond production than originally believed.

(Updated) Suspect charged with attempted murder of officer; Officer returns to work after stabbing

Timothy R. Duval, 38, of Patterson, was charged Thursday with attempted second-degree murder in the stabbing of Patterson Police Cpl. Kevin Stewart. Duval allegedly stabbed Stewart while Stewart was trying to arrest Duval for shoplifting. Stewart was treated at Teche Regional Medical Center and returned to work Thursday night. Duval was also charged with disarming of an officer, aggravated battery on an officer, resisting an officer by force, resisting an officer by flight, battery on an officer and theft by shoplifting.

A 38-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder of a Patterson police officer, after he allegedly stabbed the officer in the face with a steak knife Thursday evening.
