Morgan City defeated Berwick, 3-1 (25-22, 25-21, 17-25, 25-18), in a mild upset in District 8-III play at Berwick Tuesday. Morgan City (5-10 overall, 1-0 in district) came into the contest ranked No. 24 in the latest Louisiana High School Athletic Association Division III power rankings, while Berwick (7-10, 0-1) is ranked No. 21.

A 2015 Patterson High School graduate appears in several episodes of the new drama “Queen Sugar” on the Oprah Winfrey Network. “Queen Sugar” premiered Sept. 6-7 on OWN. The series airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m.

Franklin All-Stars capture Dixie Youth 2016 10U Louisiana AAA State Championship

STATE CHAMPIONS: The Franklin 10U All-Stars seized the Dixie Youth 2016 10U Louisiana AAA State Championship Saturday in Alexandria. Team members are pictured above. They include: Gabe Hebert, Nicolas Mire, Dylan Inzina, Dylan Steiner, Ethan Judice, Reid Lovell, Alonzo Alexander, Landen Walden, Loren Wells, Carter Faucheaux, JohnDavid Hidalgo, Daniel Ibert and Evan Louviere (alternate). Clint Judice is Manager of the team with Heath Lovell and Todd Hebert serving as coaches. The Franklin 10U All-Stars will be playing in the Dixie Youth Baseball World Series in Laurel, Mississippi which will be played August 5-12.

‘Shrek: The Musical’ cast

“Shrek: The Musical” premiers Saturday, and continues Aug, 1, 3, 4-5 at 7 p.m. There will be a July 31 matinee at 3 p.m. Tickets are available from the Lamplighter on Main Street. The cast took time out from rehearsals to pose for a photo before getting back to readying for the show.
