BATON ROUGE — St. Mary Parish’s unemployment rate remained nearly steady in December at 6.8 percent, down slight from 6.9 percent in November, according to not seasonally adjusted December data released Friday by the Louisiana Workforce Commission. But the parish’s jobless rate is up sharply from 4.8 percent in December 2013.

Central Catholic outscored Patterson 21-8 in the third quarter on its way to a 45-35 upset win against Patterson. While Patterson led 15-12 at the half, the Eagles outscored the Lumberjacks in the third quarter to take a 32-23 lead after three quarters. Both teams scored 12 points apiece in the last quarter.

VFW members visit veterans’ home

VFW District 3 members, including members of Post 4222 Morgan City, traveled to the Reserve War Veterans’ Home in Reserve Nov. 29. The VFW members made the trip to host a Christmas Party for the 160 residents of the home. Volunteers brought each resident Christmas cards, gift bags and a snack lunch.
