Berwick and Morgan City High schools each won their homecoming contests Friday to highlight area prep football action. Berwick improved to 4-0 after scoring with less than a minute remaining to defeat Franklin, while Morgan City upped its record to 3-1 after defeating Cohen College Prep, 29-0.

Central Catholic’s point total Thursday night could win most high school football games. It boasted two 100-yard rushers, a 100-yard passer and nearly a 100-yard receiver. The Eagles even outgained their opponent in total offense and recorded scores on offense, defense and special teams.

Morgan City Assistant Police Chief Mark Griffin Jr. was elected the new housing authority board chairman Thursday, replacing Victory Ho, who resigned from the board in August after a drug arrest.

Campers are Brittany’s Project Special Friends

Brittany’s Project Special Friends Camp was held July 15-18 at Franklin Senior High School, with 26 campers turning out with help from community volunteers. The camp, designed for individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities, hosted crafts, activities and much more fun. Visitors included the sheriff’s department; Toney Wade and his Canine Friend Gus with Animal Investigations and Search & Rescue; Mitch the Magician; and the Franklin Police Department. A water fun day was held Friday at the former Oaklawn Sugar Mill property with a water slide, pizza and a visit from the Franklin Fire Department who created a water spray for the campers. Franklin 10U All-Stars champs head to World Series

Franklin 10U All-Stars team members are Gabe Hebert, Nicolas Mire, Dylan Inzina, Dylan Steiner, Ethan Judice, Reid Lovell, Alonzo Alexander, Landen Walden, Loren Wells, Carter Faucheaux, JohnDavid Hidalgo, Daniel Ibert and Evan Louviere (alternate). Clint Judice is Manager of the team with Heath Lovell and Todd Hebert serving as coaches. The Franklin 10U All-Stars will be playing in the Dixie Youth Baseball World Series in Laurel, Mississippi which will be played August 5-12.

School supplies to be collected, distributed

Paying It Forward, a local nonprofit community group, hosted its second annual “Stuff the Bus” Friday under the U.S. 90 bridge in Morgan City to collect supplies for St. Mary Parish children in need. Another “Stuff the Bus” event will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday in the Family Dollar parking lot in Patterson. The city of Patterson and Patterson schools are sponsoring the event.
