The Krewe of Adonis Parade kicked off the Tri-City Mardi Gras parade schedule Friday night in Morgan City.

Franklin Foundation Hospital was the sponsor for the Feb. 11 city cleanup. The group removed litter on Main Street from the cemetery to the courthouse, including the Teche Theater area and Teche Drive. Stephanie and Maurice Guidry, Kindra McLean, Matt Barrilleaux, Ron Bailey, Rachel Picard, Didi Battle, Vel Minor, Dawn Kaiser-Melancon and Renee Mitchel represented FFH. They were accompanied by community volunteers Marguerite Robinson, Elaine Karam and Ruthie Heard. Argus Spa provided bottled water and the hospital supplied grabbers, gloves and trash bags.

Detectives seek identity of suspect in Walmart assault, shoplifting

Detectives are trying to identify the man seen in this surveillance image stemming from a Jan. 29 incident at Walmart in Bayou Vista. A St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office deputy gathered video evidence of a male suspect concealing bottles of liquor in a box containing a baby’s high chair. The suspect then purchased the high chair and walks towards the exit. When store security personnel confronted the suspect, he produced what appears to be a box cutter and threatened the employee. Still hoping for a rebound; new stores, increased business reasons for optimism

A CC’s Coffeehouse, Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt and Verizon store, currently under construction at the corner of La. 70 and Elm Street in Morgan City, are among some of the new stores set to open soon in St. Mary Parish. Contractor Sidney Roy hopes the businesses will be open before May 1. The strip mall has room for a total of six tenants, but others haven’t yet been confirmed. (The Daily Review/Zachary Fitzgerald)

St. Mary Parish sales and use tax collections dipped slightly to start the new year, but the parish sales tax director expects a gradual improvement to start soon.
