Berwick High School’s Kenan Jones led the local contingent of competitors at Saturday’s indoor LSU High School Qualifier as he won the long jump, high jump and triple jump.

A group of community members hopes to bring a day care facility for senior citizens to Morgan City before the end of 2018.

In January, St. Mary Parish students in various related programs converge on Franklin High School to demonstrate their learning and their achievements. Last weekend's event was the latest in a long tradition of that showcase.

Gift to HMS

The family of Lyndsi Maus, who performed a solo piano concert Hanson Memorial in November, donated a statue of St. Cecilia, the patroness of musicians, to the school in honor of Lyndsi. Pictured are Father Michael Russo and Lyndsi.

Food for Families drive is today

Food Net’s “Food for Families” drive is in full gear today. Locally, donations can be made at the following locations: Church of the Assumption’s parish hall, Main and Iberia streets, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Baldwin Fire Department, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Main Street, Baldwin; St. Joseph Catholic Church, Centerville, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please check the expiration dates on all canned goods that they are not expired. Monetary donations are also accepted.

Too much of a good thing?

After months of severe drought in the Southeast, St. Mary Parish finally received a considerable amount of rain over the weekend and into the early part of the week. Some street flooding occurred in Franklin during the heaviest rainfalls, and residents recorded between 9-10 inches of rain over the entire period.
